UVU Senior Directing Capstone - Written and Directed by Janelle Christensen
About the project
A Pirate's Tale (Sad) is a short film about a man named Caden and a group of friends who sit around a campfire exchanging stories. Caden tells the tale of his great grandfather, a pirate, who walks into a bar and exchanges stories for beer. The pirate tells the tale of how he lost his leg, his hand, and his eye. At the end of the long and theatrically acted out story, will his friends find Caden's joke funny? Or leave him sad and alone?
Where are we at in production?
We are currently in the pre-production process.
The script, cast and crew, and locations are all locked!
Principal photography begins in January 2025.
Why me? Why now?
The joke the script is based off of, I have told multiple times on the river during my summer job as a whitewater guide! It brings me joy, and has saved my ass multiple times when I have been too early to the boat ramp and our
bus hasn’t arrived yet!
Goals of the film?
My goals as a director are to create a work environment in which everyone feels empowered to make creative decisions that contribute to the overall production, end my time in film school with something FUN that I can be proud of and excited to show family and colleagues, further develop my ability to direct actors, lead a crew, and
communicate my ideas effectively, and focus on repetition with variation.
